Re: 300 RUM w/ 210 VLD's or 208 A-Max

I have a remington m700 300RUM that I use the 210vld's in. I use 94gr of retumbo powder with winchester mag primers and Nosler custom brass. I had to set the C.O.A.L at saami to get the best loads. I started .010 off the lands and kept working down to see what the groups would do. When I hit saami length the group was just under a half inch at 200 yards. Good enough for me. This load chronoed at 3100.

luke, I hope this doesn't make me look totally ignorant. But being new to reloading and LR shooting, I don't know much of the 'lingo'. What does saami mean?

S.A.A.M.I stands for sporting arms and ammunition manufacturers institute. It is basicly just a guide for cartridge length. It is a guide not the rule. All the reloading books that I have state the saami for any given cartridge. For example the 223 saami is 2.260. That does not mean you cant load it to 2.275 but every gun is different and may not chamber the longer rounds. By the way no question is an ignorant question. If you dont ask you cant learn.

They also handle standards for things like chamber and case dimensions, chamber pressures. And standardization of wildcat cartridges.

Thank you guys so much for your help. Just over these last two weeks I've learned a ridiculous amount of stuff with all the research I've been doing. I've been researching alot of LR scopes at the same time but that's a whole new world.

I'm definitely sold on the 210 vld's. Just seeing the velocity you guys are getting, along with the BC. I'm very excited to start loading these and see what I come up with, hopefully I don't blow myself up, haha.

Just start with a light powder charge and work up carefully. According to the data from berger the max load is 92gr of retumbo. I worked my load carefully and watched closely for pressure signs. I know the load is safe for my gun. My uncle has the same rifle as mine and he cant use the max load in his gun because of pressure.

I have run the 200gr Accubonds over 92.5gr of Retumbo, set about .015 off the lands in my 700 SS. What a difference OAL adjustments made in this particualr gun, it likes them set out a ways! Haven't shot anything with it yet, so no actual game reports for it.

Will the 210 gr VLD perform adequately for Elk/Mule deer sized game? I started working with the Accubond based off what I read here, but always willing to try something new. Especially this time of the year when I don't have anything to chase around. (but coyotes, and that is a different web site)

Thank you,
Dave
