Looking for some loads in 200 grain 30-378. Currently shooting a 180 grain accubond. I am happy with my accuracy, but want to try shooting a 200 grain bullet to maximize the potential of the caliber as well as higher bc's. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.
i have been using the 30x378 for long range pa. deer huntng for about 25 years or more.
mine is a heavy bench type gun with a custom action and a 36" barrel.
ive been using 200 gr. smks exclusivly. my load is 113 gr. of h570 with a fed.215 primer.
that was a ww2 surplus powder and not any longer available.
it produces 3500 f.p.s. in the long barrel.
118 gr. of w.c.872 or discontinued h870 will produce similar velocity. h.5010 will also so im told.
ive not used the 208 hornady, or 210 berger but they shoud do very well in that cartridge.
up to 1500 yds, the 200 smk is far flatter than the 220smk, and the 240 is even further down the hill.
from that point the heavier bullets start catching up.
problem with that cartridge is that it requires a long barrel to consume the slow powder needed for max. velocity.
