270 WSM W/huskamaw

Looking into the 6.5, 7mm, and 338 and it seems they are the way to go for BC....but whats BC? What nobody has been able to tell me is but few have tried to find the answer on the magical 270 WSM. If the 270 wasnt great then add a few horse power and BAM!! you got the most beautiful cailiber ever created!! Yes cause its a hybrid if thats the thing these days right? a .270 with more punch..!

So taking a Tikka T3 Lite and fitting with Huskemaw shooting system 5-20, Federal 140gr Accubond, and we will see what happens.

For you like me who have been waiting, you will have your answer soon. I like to kill Elk in Canada so we shall see

November 12

Took the Tikka in today!!!

>Getting Powder Coated...Blacked out
>Trigger down to 2 lb.
>Muzzle break
>and Huskemaw Optics Baby!! Phase 1: Federal 140gr Accubond, Phase 2: ? You tell me !

Should have it back in week or so..

Two weeks later.....
No way getting it back!. kinda new I wasn't getting it back for awhile, but geeze! Bad time to pick load development from pro at the end of deer season and hope for clear days to do it. Cause they are far and few. Gun is finished just cant figure out how to post pictures.

And...Thanks to the corresponders to the building the right bullet thread
Cause I've gone with Berger 150-guaranteeing BC of .520 ....To test we go...
Problems with seating of the bullets and feed problems from magazine has got me curious, even though single load is the "show boat" way to long range. "One shot" Having second shot ready is an option I still have.
Has anyone ran into this problem using berger

I will shoot 1000 yrds consistent, even if I have to by a 7mm or 300 lol.

The 270WSM seems to be a magical caliber. BC is very important for guys that are really reaching out a long ways. It is the ability of the bullet to remain stable, retain energy and buck the wind at extended ranges with the least amount of deflection and drop. That is the simple explanation. The 270WSM has the capability of pushing bullets at a relatively high speed that negates BC to a point. I will say that you should maybe consider the 150 Berger for shooting to 1000, especially shooting at elk size game. However, past 1000yrds, one should really consider heavier calibers for larger game. Good luck with the rifle. Hope to see some targets and dead animals soon!

Re: 270 WSM W/huskamaw

Here's some thoughts:

270WSM with a 8.5 twist barrel shooting a wildcat 169.5 ULDRBBT
270-300, same bbl, bullet
270 Weatherby, same bbl/bullet

I have a 270 AM, plenty of powder, and plenty of the wildcat bullets. I've just not had enough time to play with them.

In terms of convenience, I think either a 7mm Rem Mag necked down to 270 or the 300 WM necked down to 270 with the bigger wildcat bullets is a good way to go with the right barrel.

Funny I recently aquired a modell 700 in 7 rem mag with a 26" barrel and already in an hs stock. I was thinking of either keeping it the way it is or going to a 7-300 win mag or 7 stw and using 200 wildcats or rebarreling to a 270-300 win mag or 270 stw using 169.5 wildcats ... decision decisions. Right now Im leaning to the sevens just because if anything in the 270 didnt like the wildcats it wouldnt be worth it but in the sevens if the wildcats became hard to get or didnt like then there's so many good choices

Elk size game at 1000 yards with a 270WSM?

I looked up a 150 grain Sierra boattail Gameking (BC of .481) at 3100+ FPS on JBM and it says a little over 900 ft/pounds at 800 yards and 600 ft/pounds at a 1000 yards. Seems a little anemic to me at these ranges.

Re: 270 WSM W/huskamaw

I had kriby build a 270wsm for my wife and with the 169.5 wildcat and 3000fps it has 1281.4 ft-lbs at 1000yrds which is plenty to kill an elk at 1000yrds.she has already kill one elk with it in new Mexico at 740 and it dropped him in his tracks it all comes down to right bullet.
