270 Gun Choice (Brand)
I have a number of different caliber rifles - I use primarily a .308 and .300 Win Mag for hunting and 1,000 yard shooting. Also have 223s, 7.62 by 39, etc. I do not have a .270, but have been impressed by the ballistics using 130 gr rounds - so I would like to get a .270 bolt action.
I would like a 24 inch barrel for velocity reasons - I had narrowed it to Model 70s, a Remington CDL SF. Browning A or X bolt (especially the Stainless Stalker), and possible a Ruger. My rifles are either Remington (Senderos and a R5 Milspec) or one Savage plus DPMSs. It appears the Brownings and the Ruger have only 22 inch barrel in .270. So they are out if my information is correct on barrel length.
Any thoughts on the Model 70s with a 24 inch barrel, or the CDL??? The CDL would be my first wood stocked rifle if I go that way. Sometime in December I will be buying myself a Xmas present.....I suppose there are Weatherbys and Tikkas to look at too

I have a Howa/Vanguard Backcountry in 270 win that I just love. It is light weight, easy on the shoulder and very accurate.
I have several Howa' and think they give a lot of bang for the buck.

I have a Winchester Mod 70 in 270 Win, Pre 64, and love it. For me it has been a very reliable gun, good shooting and fun. Hope you enjoy your 270. Keep us posted on what you get and the results.

Re: 270 Gun Choice (Brand)
I have several varieties of .277 I never really bought 130's The 140 and 150 SPBT have far superior BC With 26 and longer barrels you can get speeds exceeding the 270 weatherby reloading books listed FPS.
The 270 win case is kind of limited to about 62 grains of powder even with a long drop tube. Using between 58 and 60 grains of imr 7828 SC cci 250 primers you are well over 3000 fps for 140 and 150's out of 26 inch or more.
Another gun to consider is the 270 WSM You would be popping the primers in a 270 win and never aquire that speed.
In my big 277 the 169.5 VLD's really shoot nice

Stick with Remington. I have a CDL in 30-06 that shoots .5 MOA with factory hornady ammo. Its pretty, and it shoots. I like the M 70's as well, but have had such luck with the Remmy's that I'm reluctant to take the plunge.

Re: 270 Gun Choice (Brand)
I have 4 Remington M700 and they have been all shooters right out of the box. I have considered other brands, but took it as a sign that so many rifle builders work and build solely off of Remington actions. Unless you go custom you just can't beat the 700 action and the tons of aftermarket parts available for the M700 rifle. Remington is also running a $100 rebate if you buy your new rifle before years end.
I agree with the other OP regarding the 270WSM....it's hands down has the biggest improvement/ most impressive gains of any of the WSM family vs the "parent" cartridge.
