The 270 with 160gr partitions or 308 with 180gr partitions, yep they'll both crunch piggies bones.

Keep in mind the animals we shoot for food and display are not bullet proof. Contrary to popular belief, they bleed and die just like they did a hundred years ago. Being competent with a given rifle is far more important than impressive ballistics and poor shootability. High velocity misses never put a steak in the freezer.

    As for rifle choice I prefer the CZ 550 American and the new Vanguard S2. I don't have a .308 but have a 30-06(which I prefer over .308), a .270 and a 6.5x55. My favorite caliber is easily the 6.5x55, the recoil is noticebly less than a .270 and 30-06 for me.

    A 6.5 X 55 doesn't have the energy i'm looking for.

    You might consider a Browning Bar in 308. I bought mine for pigs and it has the best feel and carry weight of any of my rifles. The action is worry free and it shoots 3/4" groups with about anything I buy. Even 7.62x51 military ammo. Bang bang on pigs, like shooting ducks! The Hornady superperformance 165 sst have 1300+lbs of energy left at 500 yds I believe.
