Have you tried the Sciroccos?

With their ballistic coefficient I'm thinking I'm going to be in love with them if I can keep velocities at 2,800 plus, in fact even if a little lower than that at the muzzle the mv is so high at long range they should out perform the Amax.

Sweet rig by the way. I've admired it thoughout the thread.

Have not tried the Sciroccos. The 130JLK had everything I wanted in a bullet - BC, peformance on game/targets and I could load it to mag length and easily get 3000fps with it.

Thanks for the comments on my rifle. I absolutely love it. What started out as a single-shot longrange hunting rig, has turned into a winning tactical rifle that also hunts!

I'll have to read up on them. My needs are a little different than most peoples as hogs are going to be a big part of the mix.

Those who have done a lot of hunting of hogs and killed the bigger boars understand that it takes a special kind of bullet to be able to bring them down.

They have a cartilage "shield" that runs from behind the shoulders across the chest up to about the base of the ear and back of the jaw which can be over 3" thick.

The firs few big one's I killed utterly amazed me because we often found .243's, .224's, .30-30's, even an old 180 gr Bearclaw buried in the shields which had done noting but really piss them off. The standard VLD HP's simply will not do on them unless you get out the big guns or are able to really place your shots exactly in the right spot.

Since for us on some of our places the landowners want every hog killed on sight, that means I need something capable of shooting one standing and four to six before they can run out of a wheatfield and have confidence I can deliver a fatal blow. A good many of our farmers and ranchers in Texas consider the feral hog to be one of the most serious problems we have in the state because they reproduce like rats and are absolutely hell on crops, particularly sorgum.

Right now my intent is to find a load that really works in the gun, then I'll have Marke Hostetler at precision firearms load me up a few hundred at least to get me started and if his prove as good as advertised maybe the first thousand will come from him before I even think about reloading. They use all Lapua brass in their custom loads and deliver at a very reasonable price.

I've got a 260 coming and can't wait to get her. Seems there are alot of Tactical shooter going with either a 260 or 6.5 Creedmoor these days over the 308. I currently have the 308 and it works well, I just want to try the 260. All this info will be very helpful!

I have a custom built 260 on a mak frame. and lets just say it will shoot. It is the most accurate rifle i personally have ever shot. 1,000 yards is really not a problem just turn the nightforce scope to 28.5 MOA and depending on the wind just send it. You were talking about well placed shot. well you picked the right gun. well placed shots is my first priority anytime. I use 42.5 gr of H4350 and i shoot 140 gr berger vlds. with the .612 BC and a 28" barrel with a muzzle brake i can see my hits on targets even at 200 yards. which would make quick follow up shots, but so far i have never needed a follow up shot. well placed 140 gr bullet simply did the trick. took a mule deer last year at 550 yards, made a high shoulder shot. instant dirt nap. Shot another mule deer at 300 again instant dirt nap. I think you will even love your weapon more after a few hogs feel the heat. I absolutely have not one regret for building the 260.

I pose with a friends good mule deer buck he took with my GAP Crusader in .260.
Felled with a single 139gr scenar at 340 meters. 42.5grs H4350@2850fps. If you have a 1-8" twist look at the 139gr scenar and 140 Berger VLD(hunting).

I have two .260's, one is a GAP Crusader with a 4-16X56 Hensoldt, the other is a GAP lightweight built on a Templar action, Rock#3 barrel and Mcmillan Hunters Edge stock. It has a 10X S&B PMII on it. The light rifle is a 1-9" and likes the 130gr VLD. 44.5grs H4350 produces 3000fps with it.
