257 weatherby

I plan on buying a barrel for my blaser in 257 weatherby. I am going to shoot 100 gr tsx out of it and would like to know what you guys think the best rate of twist is for this gun and bullet? I think it is a 1 in 12 twist rate but I don't know much about this kind of stuff and would like your thoughts.
Thanks

I have built a lot of rifles chambered for the 257 Weatherby and in every instance, the barrels were a 1-10" twist. I believe the bullet you are wanting to shoot will give you very good accuracy with a 10-twist barrel even though a 12-twist may give you a little higher velocity....

I would stick to a 1 in 10. The 1-12 will have trouble with heavier bullets. The 1-10 will handle 75 through 120 grain bullets pretty easy. If you are looking for speed get a longer barrel. 26" is bare minimum for this round. A 30" is just right and adds a ton of velocity. In a 30" barrel that 100 grain TSX will be knocking on 4000fps.

So if I shoot a 100gr tsx the 1/12 rate you think the gun will not shoot as accurate? Is it better to shoot a lighter bullet then?
Just trying to figure it out. Blaser only makes a 25.6 inch barrel so a longer one is out of the question but I like the thought of 4000fps.

It all depends on if it will stabilize it or not. If it doesn't, it will work with lighter bullets. If it doesn't like the 100 grain bullets you could always say, ah well, it should have. Weatherby has a disclaimer on the older 1-12 twist barrels saying they may not stabilise the heavier bullets. With the 1-12 barrel .257Wby the hot setup was the 87 grain bullet.

Nube remember that the Barnes are solid copper and are longer than conventional jacketed bullets and may not stabilize with a 1 in 12. I'm with everyone else and would go with the 1in 10. Barnes bullets will not shoot accurate enough in some guns to shoot longrange and I would hate to set a gun up for a particular bullet only to find out it will not shoot'em.
