.222 or .22

So my wife and I and two year old daughter welcomed our son into the light of day today. 2/22. So the question is do i go ahead and get him a .22 or a .222? Might be a few years before I can find .22 ammo.

.22 Hornet would be a great choice for a kid's first rifle.
