20lb Red Fox with the new Tikka Triple 2.

Took the new "Triple 2" out last night for only the second time and was rewarded with a huge 20lb dog fox, it was a great nights hunting as Charlie really made me work for it. I spotted him early on in the evening on quarry land that bordered one of my permissions but knew he would make his way to the sheep farm before the night was out, so I decided to set up an ambush for him on the sheep farm. I had a few different squeaks with me and kept him interested with the occasional squeak and made my way in front of where I thought he would be. After about an hour I turned on the lamp and panned the area where I hoped to find him and right on cue 100yds directly in front of me was Charlie. I was down on the scope already but before I could get the crosshairs on him he was off like a shot down the meadow. I considered taking a shot at him as he ran but I didn't fancy my chances of hitting a bolting fox, so I tried to keep the crosshairs on him as he ran away and hoped he would make a mistake. Thankfully he did, when he was about 200-250yds away he thought he was safe and stopped to look in my direction, I had a few seconds to take the shot. My rifle was zero'd at 150yds so I made an estimation that if I shot dead center of his spotlight eyes as they glowed at me under the lamp, the bullet would hit lower in his throat or chest, either would be fatal, so that is exactly what I did. As the crack of my rifle rang out I saw Charlie receive the good news from a 40grain Nosler BT doing 3500fps, I watched through my Duralyt as he jumped in the air, somersaulted, and dropped to the floor. I was elated. My first fox with the "Triple 2" and using my new homeloads too, fantastic Christmas present.

Hiya Tank,

The 222 is proving to be a great little calibre, very accurate, 20 grains of powder, 300yd varmint rifle with zero recoil. Whats not to like ???

I here ya. I need to get me a low recoiling round for fun plinking. Some day a 223AI will fit that bill. Though I have just read recently that guys are stretching 204 casings out to .224 caliber and running 75grain bullets to 3100fps.

Check that, looks like the 22BR would be the way to go!
