Fired cases come out COLD???

Anybody else? I was shooting the STW today, and each of my cases came out COLD. Maybe tepid, but certainly not hot like most rifle cases.

Is that normal? I was firing 79+ grains of Retumbo behind a 160-grain bullet. It was really strange to eject a cartridge just seconds after firing the round, and being able to hold the thing in my hand with no discomfort whatsoever. Never noticed this before.

Re: Fired cases come out COLD???

Almost every rifle I shoot the cases can be handled immediately... I know this because I ALWAYS check every brass after firing when I'm doing load development and fire-forming. I like to know exactly what's going on.

I don't know if that's common, but that's what happens with mine.

How fast were you shooting? I notice that the 7.62x39 brass comes out hot, but I think material, material thickness, and shot speed all play a factor.

I don't shoot this rifle very fast, the barrel gets too hot real quick. Maybe one shot every 5 minutes or so.
