Re: 7mm STW Brotherhood - For those who shoot the 7mm Shooting Times Westerner

I've been reloading for my Dad's (Pop's) Remington 700 BDL SS DM 7mm STW and I am really impressed on how it's doing at the rifle range. My Senderos have Jewell triggers and his I think has the ProX trigger with a heavier pull so it took a little bit to get used to his but I think I've figured it out now.

Below is the latest 3 shot Group ( .39 MOA ) at 100 yards when I shot it last Monday with CT 140 gr. and H1000. This load velocity was averaging 3,386 fps with my chronograph.

It has been grouping with AB 140 gr. the same but a little higher velocity with everything else remaining the same.

My Dad or Pop (as we call him) is really tickled on the way that his rifle is now shooting.

Here's a three shot grouping with AB 140 gr. ( .40 MOA ) at 100 yards. This load velocity was averaging 3,410 fps with my chronograph..

I had 2 bullets left with CT 140 gr. so decided to I shoot a two shot grouping ( .24 MOA ) at 100 yards on the same target.

Yeah, my Pop's Remington 700 BDL SS DM 7mm STW is shooting really good with the reloads I've worked up for his rifle!

Lee,

I'm trying to steer my Pop on the ABs instead of the CTs. Do you think the CTs do as well as the ABs at the velocity the 7mm STW produces?

I hear the CTs can fragment at close range (under 100 yards) with that velocity.

I have never had that problem myself I have killed more deer with a C/T than another bullet I have ever hunted with....I have killed deer from 75yrds to 700yrds with the 140 C/T but you really cant go wrong with either one of them I just prefer the C/T

Thanks!

That is good to know. I think my Pop prefers the 140 gr. C/T because he has always shot with his 7mm STW the discontinued Winchester Supreme 7mm STW 140 gr. Ballistic Silvertips. He gave me over 120 nickel/brass cases and that is what I am using to reload his rifle with.

Also with C/T Lubalox® external treatment do you think it reduces fouling and creates less barrel wear to promote longer barrel life as Nosler claims?

Tim,
IMO it does ....I shoot them in just about everthing I have but I see the most ease in cleaning and hardley no copper fouling in the STW and my 22-243 MiddleStead
