Anyone using a BAT L action?

Guys,

Question for any of you using the BAT L action: what are you using for a stock? I'm starting to gather components for a 375 Chey Tac and have bought the action, barrel is on order now I need to pick up a stock. I thinking something along the lines of a Tooley tracker style or F Class stock but with the width of the action and subsequent barrel diameter (1.45") stocks need to be right. I imagine some of the 50 BMG stocks would work but again what is being used?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Re: Anyone using a BAT L action?

The stock would depend on what diameter action you have. Most of the F-class stocks and the 1000 yard light gun stocks will fit the 1.650" action. The 1.750" and the 2.0" actions will need to go into the heavy gun style stocks.
If you are looking at a laminate or hardwood stock, then the F class, light gun, and some tactical stocks can be made to fit. When I say made to fit, I mean the action area has to be made oversized to accomodate the action.

With the permission from Terry Cross, I have duplicated his Sentinel stock, and made some changes to allow the use of the BAT "L", 1.650" action. I have written the inlet program for the action, which allows me to inlet any stock for it.
I will be bedding this stock this week.

What does BAT themselves recommend? I personally think that stocks are commonly built wrong and prioritys are overlooked. Make sure the BALANCE of the finished product is correct. Make sure the comb is correct for the ring and scope combination. Make sure your LOP is correct. Then comes cosmetics. The best stock material for accuracy is definitely carbon. Hope this helps...

That's a great design Joel! I'm a sucker for a nice thumb-hole stock.

Terry considers this a "situational" stock, and I must say, I was rather impressed with the design. I'm not sure it's the right stock for this particular build, but it would be wonderful under a standard size action and barrel.

Re: Anyone using a BAT L action?

Thanks for the feedback gentlemen. I am not building a hunting rifle; I want something in the neighborhood of 20-22 lbs finished weight strictly for shooting at small targets at great distances. After doing some additional research and talking to several people I decided on a MBR tracker stock. I ordered one from Bill Shehane this morning. I guess I got lucky because he just received a shipment from McMillan and it shipped to my gunsmith this afternoon. The long lead time item now is the barrel which is probably 14 weeks out.

Thanks again for everyone's suggestions.
