408 Cheytac vs. 50 Cal

oh, yeah, i have carried my 50 in the field, dont recommend it. at 18-19 pounds it's a beast even tho it is a light 50. i dont even carry a 9 pounder anymore. there a lot of "hunting bullets" for a 50 out there. a guy in wyoming made me some double "shell" 750 grainers that was devastating on moose (like killing a ground squirrel with a 300 WM). but the bottom line is if you want to shoot critters, the 50 is too much unless you are not moving. if accuracy is an issue and over a mile shooting then dont be fooled by the 408 and 416 crowd. put a similar bullet in a similar rifle in .510 BMG and see how they compare. check out the 50 cal shooters association, FCSA.org they have been shooting LONG DISTANCE before most of you guys were out of school.

I have had both the 50 and the 375 Chey tac. I shot the 750 A-max in the 50. The ballistics are very similar, the only advantage the fifty has over the 375 is payload. My 375 is much more accurate than the Armalite AR50 I owned. The 375 weighs 16 lbs including the USO, the AR50 is around 35 lbs.

All things considered the 375 comes out on top for civilian uses. Military applications is a whole different ball game.

50 BMG Barrett. Barrett will be around a long time, the 50 BMG before them. You will sell the the gun at some point. Anyone going long that wants a detached retina will buy a Barrett 50 BMG when you've had your fun. I'm going to get one. Resale value is always important. Shooters tend to try new things as they age. It seems there is no real comparison to 50 BMG really whereas you have higher bc specialty bullets available for it. The 50 is here to stay.

No real comparison? What speciality bullet are you referring to, would you care to share the numbers, BC, velocity etc. Also what level of accuracy are you expecting from the Barret.
