oh, yeah, i have carried my 50 in the field, dont recommend it. at 18-19 pounds it's a beast even tho it is a light 50. i dont even carry a 9 pounder anymore. there a lot of "hunting bullets" for a 50 out there. a guy in wyoming made me some double "shell" 750 grainers that was devastating on moose (like killing a ground squirrel with a 300 WM). but the bottom line is if you want to shoot critters, the 50 is too much unless you are not moving. if accuracy is an issue and over a mile shooting then dont be fooled by the 408 and 416 crowd. put a similar bullet in a similar rifle in .510 BMG and see how they compare. check out the 50 cal shooters association,
