I'd be doing some shouting as well if I went target on the 4 th round at that distance. Keep er coming, you do a nice job of writing as well. Nice job with the 308W.

Thanks for the kind words, all. Trigger Puller, the 308 ranks right on the top of my list as the best combination of challenging and enjoyable to shoot.

Happy shooting.

Re: 308 Win at 0.943 Mile!

RO828,

Perhaps a little off target here, pun intended, Just how far will a 308W round travel? My brother and I have been contemplating opening up a 500-600 yd. shooting range here in Minnesota. So far all of our competition has been in mined out gravel pits. We do have a 1000 yd. range to the east of us that I want to compete on this summer. Safety is the big factor, how far does a 308W or 6.5 CM travel, give or take an inch or two?

Re: 308 Win at 0.943 Mile!

Best answer I can give is one I found on google.
I'm sure there is someone here on the boards more qualified, but hopefully this will get you started.

308Win. with 150gr. bullet: Max. range = 4,470yds.
Muzzle vel.: 2820fps
Angle of Departure: 35.2 deg.

Source: Lyman's Guide to Big Game Cartridges & Rifles, pg.146/147.
Note: 1,760yds. in a mile.

Best of luck with the range. I'd be thrilled if someone opened up anything more than a hundred yard range around here. Shoot, I'd be out there pounding poles and moving dirt with em.
