Your welcome. The pic is my hunting rifle in 6.8mm SPC basically a .270 lite with no recoil and great accuracy. It will handle a fairly wide range of bullet weights from 85g up to the 140g Berger VLD's which I just started playing with. The first loading of the Bergers are producing 2380 fps with around 1800 fpe at the muzzle. You can push some of the lighter bullets to 3000 + fps with no pressure signs.

When you ask a question like that you tend to get a wide variety of OPINIONS. With that said, the only ones I have any experience with is the colt I was issued in the Marine Corps and the AR15 I built for myself. My personal rifle is a combination of a C3 defense lower and a Rock River Arms predator pursuit upper. It's very accurate and not that heavy. Before you figure in the price of optics it cost me right at 900.00

If you stick with brands of known quality, I suspect you will do just fine. Most AR pattern rifles assembled by the usual well known suspects will out shoot the nut behind the trigger.

Out of the box, no mods: LMT, Noveske, DD, or LaRue. Close your eyes and pic one, can't go wrong. And hey, after six months eliminate the previous choice and do it again - one is none, two is one!

Re: Want an AR15, what's the best out of box?

I built my own last summer, well..all but the lower. I didn't want to screw around with that. I put it together for about $800 before taxes, not including the 1.5x5 Leupold and PEPR mount I put on there. The upper is a 18" Black Hole Weaponry Barrel with a Mid Length gas system and YHM rail and Flip up front sight gas block, and Rock River BCG. The Lower is made my Aero Precision and the buffer tube, stock and pistol grip are made by Magpul. The BUIS is made by Matech and I think it is what is being used on the Colt rifles...I could be wrong on that??? I bought all my parts minus the Magpul pieces at Surplus Ammo and Arms. They are a bunch of assholes to be blunt and take forever to get back to you, but I did find them to have the best prices. They also have pre-assembled Uppers and Lowers with pretty much the same specs I built mine with. Im not saying my way was the best way, but for my first AR, and putting to together for the price I did, I am ecstatic with it!

The best out of the box value and performance wise is the Smith and Wesson M&P15 Sport, I am running mine with a 6-24x50 bushnell scope and frequently am shooting prairie dogs over 200 yards away 1 shot 1 kill. At around $600 for the performance and accuracy you cannot beat it.

Re: Want an AR15, what's the best out of box?

I'm very happy with my RRA 6.8 M4. It shoots .8ish moa with 110gr hornady factory ammo(cheapest I can find) Might even do better if I ever get off my butt and try some home brews.

I haven't had the gun fail on me. However I havent shot loads of ammo through it b/c it isnt that easy to find. I've shot about 300 rounds through it without a hick up and I have not cleaned it once, which I don't plan on it. I want to see how many rounds it will shoot without a hick-up.
