My understanding , piston system came to be to keep full auto M16 to function cooler , to prevent a cook off round. Most AR's never get to that temperature. I have removed rounds from my AR that are heat colored, but never had one cook off. The gas system also took us through Vietnam and never heard of rounds cooking off. Now everbody has to have a piston system ! I quess we just want the best no matter what the cost.
