Re: longest shot on a prairie dog

I guess now I can say why I wanted to know who's shooting long range with an AR in 223 or 223 AI. This past June I took a really, really long shot with my 223AI. What I did proves a blind squirrel can get a nut. But, I'm that squirrel. I have an un biased witness who ranged the shot with a high quality range finder set of binos and watched the shot through a strong spotting scope. I was shooting my favorite AR named "Wicked Wanda" with only a 55grain Sierra BlitzKing bullet. This load has been chronoed (at 900ft. elevation) at 3600fps and I'm positive it was still sonic at the target. The prairie dog was 862 yards (at 2000+ft. elevation)!!!!It took several shots, but I only put two rounds in the mag for the final shots. First was seen and adjusted and second dropped it. I didn't dial the scope, a NightForce 5.5x22x56, and had run out of mil dots! I was down in the rectangle box and he fit completely inside it! I don't know who was more excited , me or the spotter ! Sadly, I didn't do the cardboard sign and photo op. There was already a guy who had shot farther the previous season , but with a bolt gun and a 6x284 and 105s. It didn't occur to me what I had done with an AR and a little 55gr. bullet til much later. I don't know, but I think it was one very long shot!
