Re: AR with heavy 22" kriegger
Orangeride, the Kriegger barrels are know for being very accurate. I like that you're shooting 69s; but you didn't say what the twist is; or I missed it. It sounds like your firing sequence is good; starting with foulers and paying attention to heat. May I ask if you have wind flags? Shooting at 200 yds. will give the wind time to affect the flight. Mirage will too. And I agree with you, chronoing the loads will give a lot of info. Hope this helps and good luck ! Charles
PS- I doubt very much it's the primers or brass as you're using the best. Lockup probably isn't it either. Are you running the AR wet or dry? Best is wet. My bet is the wind/ mirage is the culprit.

Might try just loading a single round by hand and shooting with no magazine at all. If the rounds are getting beat up or seated further while firing it could cause problems.

Re: AR with heavy 22" kriegger
I have occasionally seen a difference in POI from releasing the bolt manually (first shot) compared to the rest of the magazine. I would take one shot off target, then let the gun cycle normally for the next 5 shots for record. It may be cheating, but it seemed to work. Isn't consistency the key to accuracy?

Re: AR with heavy 22" kriegger
My barrel is 1-7.7". I finally got my crono working and did some primer testing. My 69 SMK load is 24.5 gr varget, lapua brass and Rem 7.5 primers. With unsorted brass and bullets, I had an average extreme velocity spread of 43 FPS per 5 round group shot. I then sorted the bullets and brass and that got me down to 20 FPS. The funny thing was the best group I shot that day, was one where the velocity spread was closer to the 43. I have rounds loaded with Fed and Cci match primers, but I've been waiting for a day for the wind to let off. I'll post with my results after I test the other primers. I would assume in the end the load with the most consistent velocity will be most accurate.

Re: AR with heavy 22" kriegger
Orangeride, I think you answered your own question about vel./accuracy. Yep, not always is the most consistent vel. the best accuracy. You proved that. But, most times it is. I really think you should switch primers to the 7 1/2s. When you get into pressures; they rule. They are also very, very consistent. I won't shoot anything but those in my ARs. Keep us informed as to your progress,ok?

I'd say based on bullet weights plus small rifle primers, and such 223/5.56.
