600yd DPMS Arctic Panther Ar15???

Hey guys, I was thinking about buying my first AR15. What I'm looking for is a midrange semi-auto target and coyote system. I would like to be able to shoot out to 600yds with at least MOA accuracy. Do you think this system is capable of this? Thanks Nathan,

Sure it is, find a good load that has as high a BC as possible and is consistantly accurate in it. The rest is up to you.

spend your money wise when it comes to the AR DPMS makes alot of rifles and there QC is sometimes spoty............

If price is not an factor look at Larue, Danial Defence, LMT or centurion arms

Re: 600yd DPMS Arctic Panther Ar15???

I shoot an ISSI AR InsightShootingSystemsInc. 223 AI and i'm getting about MOA to 600 in field conditions ( 0 wind between 500 and 600) using the 65 Sierra Gameking right now. This dog was taken several weeks ago at 557 on the 1st shot--

using this TK Lee 3 MOA reticle--

Another option is the Rock River Arms Predator Pusuit. I have this and with the 1/8 barrel twist it will stablize the heavier bullets better. I have shot 77gr SMK at 600 yds with a 5"group

Re: 600yd DPMS Arctic Panther Ar15???

Given the money you are considering spending there are alot great choices.

Personally if I was looking for consistent 600 yard + performance I would not go with the 5.56/.223 cartridge. Sure I know someone who swears up and down that he killed a bear that was in his back yard with a .223. Leaving the illegality of taking a bear without a license in California, the .223 is a poor hunting cartridge at long range, imho. The 6.5 grendel would be the type cartridge that would be great for these ranges. They say the 6.5 grendel is good out to 1200yds. The 1200yds. may be a little optimistic, for hunting, out of an ar15 but 8 or 900 yards may be reasonable! 3 times the lead at 3 times the effective range of the .223!

For the kind of money you have to spend you can get an alexander arms ar-15 with a great match barrel. Probably more in the area of 1/2 inch groups with good ammo and shooter doing his job. If you don't reload the 6.5g would be a great excuse to start. This is a far more "serious" rifle for hunting and target shooting at budget ar15 prices.

The place you will need to spend some bux is glass that will put you on target out to 1000 yards.

Re: 600yd DPMS Arctic Panther Ar15???

I would also agree with that comment. Look here also for heavy 224 bullet and 6mm options that would also net u 600-yd. capability a bit better than the 223-based cases-- 6mm AR Home Page

The 123-grain A-Max may be just the ticket for ~600 yd. coyotes--assuming the BC is close to advertised.
