Re: TAC 15i Changes......In What Priority Order??

Hi Twanger,
The modification is very simple and takes no time at all.
Here are the steps in the order I performed them. P.S. I used my kitchen table for this one.

1. Loosen the HHA set screws that hold the HHA Optimizer Speed Dial to your upper weaver rail and remove your scope and HHA as one unit.

2. Loosen and remove the 6 hex screws (3 on each side) that connect your upper and lower unit.

3. Using a hammer and small punch or a nail punch out the steel frame pin that sits directly above your trigger. Make sure you are punching the pin out that you start from the side opposite the "Safe" switch and punch it in the direction of this switch. The pin is uni-directional and will only come out in that direction.

4. Once the pin is out of your way, you are free to clean the metal surface of the trigger hammer with Acetone or Denatured Alcohol to remove any oils or residue before applying the new silencing materials.

5. Apply the special rubber material to the foam tape and then apply the foam tape using tweezers to the hammer surface where shown in the pictures, supplied by Paacrossbow.

6. Next, turn your cable sled upside down and apply just a small piece of the rubber material as shown in the pictures to the able release flange on the under side of the sled. It's easiest to do this if you let out some line on the rope before starting this process.

7. Put it all back together and go test your crossbow.

Regards,

Jon

Thanks Jon.
This web-site is great!
That sounds fairly straightforward.

Re: TAC 15i Changes......In What Priority Order??

Hey guys..........Thanks much for all the excellent input on how to move forward on setting up my new TAC. I now have a great list to work from. Interestingly I ordered my TAC for a combination of intermediate to longer range target shooting first and hunting second. Now that the shoulder is starting to feel better I've been able to submit my applications for disability crossbow permits to 4 states. It's very interesting what I've learned in a fairly short time. I can use the TAC legally in only 1 of the states in it's stock scoped format. Colorado requires using pins/peepsight with no glass at all, SD allows glass with a red dot but no magnification, ND allows a 4x maximum magnification and MN allows any scope/magnification deemed necessary on your crossbow. I did plan to have a second, lighter hunting type crossbow for some of my stands where I need to walk a mile or so in to get away from everyone that hunts the fringes of the public land that is walk-in only. This second rig will have to be more flexible and I'll probably try to set it up with a combination of pins and a 3x scope to cover 3 of the states. If any of you are aware of or know anything about any non-scope options out there I'd welcome the input. I did see that Tenpoint has a conventional pins/peep system option that can be used interchangably on their crossbows with a scope and that may be my second option. Any input on other options is appreciated. If I could come up with pistol type sight with less then 1 power and glass with a red dot on the optimizer I might have something that would allow me to use the TAC in 3 of the 4 states.

Re: TAC 15i Changes......In What Priority Order??

Hi NDPronghorn,
I'm by no means an expert in the area of non-magnification scopes or pin sites for crossbows, but you might want to look at either ACOG's or Red Dot sights to see if they fit the bill for your needs.

I've heard very good things about the ACOG's from several of our members who have added them onto their TAC's.

Jon

Re: TAC 15i Changes......In What Priority Order??

I've not been all that happy with red dot scopes.
Used them on the pistols at 1X and there are three problems:
1) they use an optical splitter and are dim in low light
2) the dots are roughly 4MOA in size and your accuracy will be about this, or worse
3) my eyes suck and 1X is ok out to about 20 yards but forget about 50-100. (your mileage may vary)

I'd recommend using the most powerful scope you can.

Re: TAC 15i Changes......In What Priority Order??

Thanks Twanger.

As I had stated, I'm not the expert in this area.

I use a compact version of the Leapers 3 x 12 x 44 mm and have great luck with it. I don't like having to make parallax adjustments, but everything else is fine.

When somebody comes out with a similar scope but in a higher quality lens system for sharper image quality and no parallax adjustment, I'll make a change, otherwise this suits the purpose.

Regards,

Jon
