180yds with a Rem 870 12g scoped shooting Winchester 3" mag sabots. To be honest hitting her was pure luck and I don’t think I could do it again.

155 Yds. State Park Deer Reduction hunt. Doe and yearling stop @ 30 Yds in some brush, and when they step out I shot the yearling instead of the doe first (they swapped places). The doe bugged out and I shot at her running @ about 60 Yds. and missed. When she stopped to look back, I ranged her and sent it. I aim for the high shoulder shot, and she dropped like a rock. When I got to her, the slug entered her neck right where it joins the head. ????? After I tagged both of them, I climbed back in the tree stand to wait for #3. Looking at where she fell, I noticed a small branch about 1/4" dia that was shot off about 8' out from the gun. Just lucky I guess! Tar-Hunt 12 ga., Hornady SST Slugs

My first deer was a doe when I was 12. Didn't know anything about ballistics or trajectory. It was a downhill shot and my gun was a single shot smooth barrel 12 gauge that had been given to me by my grandfather. The shot turned out to be 80 yards or so. I just aimed in front of the shoulder and the slope was just right for the trajectory to put the slug where I was aiming. I got that one, but missed 3 others that were with her as they ran away.
