Have You Ever Watched A Bull Elk Making His Rub?

This bull was marking his territory in Rocky Mountain National Park this past September. I also watched him peel bark with his teeth.

So next time you walk past a grove of trees that have been shredded, you can think of this photo!

I've seen 'em rub a lot. Mostly in a rutting frenzy on smaller stuff. Hadn't really thought of the big rubs as marking territory. This is a more deliberate sort of thing?

Neat pic! And a pretty darn nice bull.

Fantastic picture.

I have only been elk hunting once, we saw lots of animals, but nothing up close and personal. We got two 5x5 and a cow last year.

Great shot! Watched this fellow doing about the same on a smaller tree shortly before I shot him!

Bull elk are awesome!
